Authoring Elementary Performance Tasks
In 2015 Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium contracted the UCLA Curtis Center to provide them with 168 performance tasks for student assessment use in the classroom. At that time, the Smarter Balanced end of year assessment was used in 21 of the United States. During this 1 ½ year project the Curtis Center successfully developed a unique writing process by which our performance task authors (teachers, school administrators and mathematicians from around the country) created student performance tasks.
Once enrolled in the Authoring Elementary Performance Tasks course, participants will write their own student performance task to be used in the classroom, utilizing the Curtis Center’s unique step by step authoring process, our Authoring Tool, our grading rubric template and more. At specific points in the course, participants will have experienced members of the Curtis Center’s Performance Task writing team reviewing your work and providing comments. After field testing your performance task, our Curtis Center Field Test Analysts will review the student work and provide valuable feedback so that participants may complete a final edit of their performance tasks before completing this course.
